ELLISVILLE 鈥� 麻豆直播鈥檚 2021-22 Maroon Typhoon Marching Band is ready to blow fans away with a 鈥淪tyleish鈥� show this fall. Being fortunate to finish a week of band camp after having it canceled last year, the approximately 160 members endured the Mississippi heat fine-tuning their technical and marching skills. Director of Bands, Dr. Ben Burge is thrilled with the group鈥檚 accomplishments after an intense week of drills.

鈥淭his group of resilient, young people has been a joy to work with during Band Camp,鈥� said Burge. 鈥淐OVID-19 has impacted them in so many ways. I am glad we were able to get through this very important week of training with almost everyone! I am hopeful we will be able to continue to provide a wonderful college experience for them at Jones. They have already proven to be very flexible and very hardworking. I am looking forward to showing the Jones family what they can do!鈥�

Sophomore Morgan Breland of Ellisville is especially happy to be able to participate in Band Camp this year. The South Jones High School graduate enjoyed her time on the Bravette dance team and was looking forward to coming to 麻豆直播 her freshman year before everything was canceled. This year, she almost missed out again because the COVID-19 virus kept her isolated just before Band Camp.

鈥淎lthough COVID-19 guidelines have strongly impacted our normal activities, we have made the best of the situation. I recently battled COVID-19 myself and have worked hard to get my body prepared for our recent Band Camp. Although the days were hot and tiring, we were all proud to be back at 麻豆直播. It takes all of us giving 100%,鈥� said Breland.

Realizing many students did not get to complete their high school band experience and have missed out on so many normal and traditional experiences because of COVID-19, Burge said band members are grateful for the opportunity to perform again.

鈥淭hey have missed out on so many normal and traditional experiences because of COVID-19. With the protocols in place at 麻豆直播, I am hopeful COVID-19 won鈥檛 interrupt our performances this fall,鈥� said Burge.

This year鈥檚 鈥淪tyleish鈥� half-time show features the music of entertainment icons Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. The show begins with, 鈥淣o Time to Die鈥� from the 007 blockbuster movie by the same name. The nine-member Touch of Gold dance team will be featured in 鈥淕olden鈥� by Harry Styles and again in the pregame show to the 1968 chart-topper, 鈥淏end Me Shape Me鈥� by the American Breed. The Percussion section and the weapon line are highlighted in, 鈥淵ou Should See Me in a Crown.鈥� The show ends with the One Direction hit, 鈥淪teal my Girl鈥� and 鈥淏ad Guy.鈥�

JC Sophomore, Emma Burge of Oak Grove will lead the band as Drum Major, joined by sophomore Genna Ramey of Leroy, Alabama and freshman, Cambry Holiefield of Laurel-Northeast Jones. Also guiding the Maroon Typhoon in her eighth season is Assistant Director of Bands and flute instructor, Dr. Lindsey Keay, with percussion instructor, Dr. Josh Frans in his third year, and woodwinds instructor, Michelle Graham beginning her fourth season at Jones. Joining the staff as brass instructor, is former Marine Band member, Caleb Owenby. Lora Davis, the Touch of Gold choreographer/advisor, and 1989 Jones alumna, returns for her 30th season.

鈥淚 appreciate the opportunity to continue to be able to do what I love and offer scholarship opportunities for dance students,鈥� said Davis. 鈥淩eflecting on all the band camps over the years, the big trips to perform in parades in Chicago, Dallas, New York City and Washington D.C., I have fond memories of the students, their families and the chaperones who have helped over the years. I particularly remember, Willie and Joyce Rigdon, who recently passed. They were a precious couple who poured into students for decades, including me.鈥�

Breland said she began her love for dancing at Lora Davis鈥檚 dance studio in Ellisville, 14 years ago. The sophomore said she is especially excited to continue dancing for the former Saintsation and South Jones High School Bravette choreographer for one more year.

鈥淥ver the years, Lora has been a role model for me, as well as thousands of others. It has been a joy to continue to have her in my life at 麻豆直播.听She sets high standards for Touch of Gold and spends a lot of time working with the team. I am looking forward to making memories and performing with the best band with the best directors around, JC Maroon Typhoon!鈥� said Breland.

Upcoming performances of the Maroon Typhoon include the 鈥淢eet the Bobcats鈥� pep rally on Thursday, August 26, at 6 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. The Bobcats will go up against Northeast CC in the first home football game on Thursday, September 2, at 7 p.m. A week later, on September 9, Jones will face Northwest CC and on September 30, Jones will square off against Hinds CC. Appearances in October include Homecoming on Saturday, October 9, at 2 p.m. when the Bobcats meet the Southwest CC Bears. 麻豆直播 Practical Nursing graduates enter profession at critical time

ELLISVILLE 鈥� Thirty new, Practical Nursing graduates from 麻豆直播 are entering the profession at the most critical time. They were challenged during their education and will most likely continue to be challenged in their careers. Director of the Practical Nursing Program at Jones, Amy Myers said she is proud of their accomplishments, and she is confident they are prepared to make a positive impact in the medical profession.

鈥淭hese graduates have completed nursing school during a time of uncertainty. The pandemic forced our graduates to complete much of their classwork online. Learning difficult, nursing content in an online format is no easy feat! Many students also faced financial and personal challenges, persevering despite it all. I am excited for the opportunities our graduates will have to better their own lives and those of their future patients,鈥� said Myers.

Three students were honored for their accomplishments during the three-semester program. Jimmy Brazell of Waynesboro earned the Academic Excellence Award for having the highest academic average. The Rising Star Award was presented to Amaya Tavarez of Silver Creek for her continuous dedication and growth in the classroom and clinical setting, and her positive attitude and perseverance which enriched her professionalism and nursing knowledge. Dustin Lambert of Raleigh was honored to receive the Florence Nightingale Award amongst the full-time practical nursing program graduates by 麻豆直播 faculty who believe he exhibits the qualities of the founder of nursing, with his professionalism, integrity and selfless attitude.

The Pinning and Graduation Ceremony ended with the traditional 鈥淟amp Lighting鈥� inspired by the founder of nursing, Florence Nightengale who carried a lamp to help wounded soldiers during the Crimean War in 1854. ELLISVILLE 鈥� 麻豆直播 pharmacy technology sophomore, Kayleigh Byrd of Neely is one of only 25 recipients to earn a new scholarship offered by Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, an international honor society for two-year colleges. The PTK and Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Scholarship is worth $250 to cover the cost of the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam fee for the 2020 Richton High School graduate.

鈥淭his is exciting and very humbling to receive this new scholarship and to be 麻豆直播鈥檚 first recipient. Every little bit helps as I plan to earn my doctorate in pharmacy,鈥� said Byrd.

麻豆直播 Pharmacy Technology instructors, Tracy Parker and Stephanie Jones said Byrd is very deserving of this honor and scholarship.

鈥淭his speaks volumes of her work and study ethics. She takes the initiative and because of it, she is our top student,鈥� said Parker.

Additionally, Stephanie Jones said, 鈥淜ayleigh works well under pressure and she grasps the skills easily. She will make an excellent pharmacy technician and pharmacist.鈥�

The Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Certification Scholarship recognizes Phi Theta Kappa members who are enrolled in allied Health or Pharmacy Technician programs. The scholarship is open year-round with recipients being selected twice a year. Up to 50 scholarships are issued each year.

ELLISVILLE 鈥� After studying and working in the Cosmetology clinical lab for the past year, 18 麻豆直播 students have graduated from the Cosmetology Technology Program. During a special graduation ceremony, Grace Bower, Sophie Coxwell, Abby Daughtry, Molly Dyess, Catherine Hunter, Hannah Husband, Elizabeth Jones, Rachael Jones, Breunna McCann, Jeremiah McFarland, Dajah Miller, Janie Parish, Katelyn Reid, Allison Richardson, Evelyn Sullins, Calin Taylor, Bryanna Weems, and Tiffany White earned their Career Certificate of Completion.

Cosmetology instructor, Sylvina Buckley said she is especially proud of this class of graduates for many reasons.

鈥淭hey have worked hard, overcome challenges related to learning during a pandemic, and have done so well! I am especially proud that almost all of them have already secured a job. I know the last two students will have something shortly!鈥� said Buckley.

Several students were honored with special recognition at the ceremony. Janie Parish earned the 鈥淭op of Class鈥� honor with the highest GPA. Allison Jo Richardson earned the Salutatorian honors with the second-highest GPA. Catherine Hunter earned the 鈥淧erfect Attendance鈥� award and Bryanna Weems was recognized as the 鈥淢ost Improved Character.鈥� The 鈥淢ost Determined鈥� award was given to Breunna McCann, and Hannah Husband was recognized with the 鈥淢ost Humble鈥� award.
