All students entering campus must meet a strict list of requirements to ensure the safety of everyone working and taking courses at any Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ facility and to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm-1024x605.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm-1024x605.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm-768x454.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/nursing-classroom-ws1-sm.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administration and faculty have been preparing for this possibility all summer. The online course plan is designed with students in mind as an effective, educational method,\u201d said Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ President, Dr. Jesse Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Classes requiring face-to-face instruction and hands-on training, are meeting in smaller groups and students are spaced six feet apart in classrooms. Hattiesburg\u2019s Brianna Frierson, an associate degree nursing major said she\u2019s happy Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ is making an extra effort to ensure their safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing a daily health check, wearing a wrist band to easily identify those who are cleared to be on campus and having plenty of sanitizer available is great. This is what I have been doing before COVID-19 because I have family members that I care for at home. Despite the extra precautions required to meet on campus like taking the health assessment, cleaning the classroom desks and wearing a mask.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of diseases out there. We can\u2019t dwell on it. We must take precautions all the time and hope it doesn\u2019t affect us as we progress forward. I know COVID-19 is a serious virus but my biggest concern is not getting to do clinical experience; simulations are not the same as the clinical setting,\u201d said Hillman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1528 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/james-walters-working-the-drill-press-ms-small.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It is also virtually impossible to learn precision machining and manufacturing skills through online instruction. Laurel\u2019s James Walters came to Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ to learn how to use a drill press, lathe and CNC machine after finishing three years at Mississippi State University as a mechanical engineering major. He said he is glad to be in class, wearing a mask.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is what it is,\u201d said Walters. \u201cMy concern is spreading the virus, so I\u2019ll do what I have to in order to take classes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Precision machining and manufacturing instructor, Chase Elmore said he is better able to assist students coming to the machine shop at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ to not only learn skills and troubleshoot but to also teach them how to be good <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1527 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/jared-courtney-on-drill-press-small.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>employees.
