The public is invited to the free performances at the First Baptist Church of Laurel on Sunday, October 23, at 6 p.m. and the First Baptist Church of Quitman performance on Sunday, November 13, at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ music and piano instructor, Dr. Victoria Johnson will accompany<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3284 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dr-kang-black-and-white-small.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> the group on piano as the Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Imgyu Kang will be conducting different musical genres for each group. Featured songs such as, The Phantom of the Opera medley, Gospel style songs, traditional hymn style songs, and a selection for a male chorus will all focus on the theme of &#8220;Grace&#8221; for this concert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that we are back as much as we used to be, we are so grateful to be able to go around without a mask in our daily lives, especially here in Mississippi. Thinking of the grace we have received from God and the grace we have received from our friends, neighbors, and family, we have planned this concert with the theme of \u2018Grace\u2019 in the hope that it will be a time to thank each other, to share, and to build community together again,\u201d said Dr. Kang.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3288 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/cu-choir-3-small.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Each vocal group will be featured beginning with the JC Voices performing \u201cGrace\u201d and Schubert\u2019s Mass in G major, including, Kyrie (The Lord have Mercy on us), Gloria (Glory to God) and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). \u00a0The Concert Choir will follow up with seven selections including, \u201cHoly is He,\u201d \u201cVive L\u2019amour,\u201d \u201cThe Phantom of the Opera,\u201d and \u201cI Sing Because I\u2019m Happy.\u201d The Collegiate Chorale group will perform the \u201cHallelujah Chorus\u201d and the JC Voices will conclude the concert with two musical pieces, \u201cEvery Time I Feel the Spirit\u201d and \u201cA Gaelic Blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe choir exemplifies the theme of \u2018Grace\u2019 with the songs they sing, and we wanted to begin this year with that theme,\u201d said Dr. Kang. \u201cWe have told the story of Grace through our past concerts with the theme of \u2018The Storm is Passing Over\u2019 and \u2018Peace and Blessings.\u2019 We want our audience to feel a sense of grace, or God\u2019s love, through our music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ choir member Marcus Sims of Laurel, shared his definition of Grace and encouraged the public to hear what grace sounds like in their concerts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrace to me means receiving the kindness from God that we do not deserve. There is nothing we can do to earn this favor. It is a gift from God.
