Dr. Benji Sessums, Dean of the School of Health Sciences
Facilities play a pivotal role in the quality of education we can offer. The J.B. Young Center, home to many of our health science programs, is currently undergoing an expansion funded by Accelerate MS. This expansion will significantly increase our capacity to train nursing students, addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals in our region. However, to fully realize the potential of this expansion, we need to equip the new spaces with state-of-the-art fixtures, lab equipment, and technology that mirrors what students will encounter in real-world healthcare settings.
Beyond nursing, other health science programs, such as Medical Radiologic Technology, Emergency Medical Technology, and Pharmacy Technology, also require ongoing investment in facilities to ensure that students have access to the best possible learning environments. Modern, well-equipped labs, simulation centers, and classrooms are essential for providing hands-on training that prepares students for the challenges of healthcare careers.
By supporting the enhancement of our facilities, you contribute to a learning environment that is conducive to high-level education and innovation, helping us produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also fully prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.
Health Science programs at Â鶹ֱ²¥ are rigorous and demanding, requiring a significant commitment of time and resources from students. Many of our students aspire to careers in healthcare but face substantial financial barriers that can hinder their progress. Scholarships play a crucial role in bridging this gap, providing much-needed financial relief and allowing students to focus on their studies without the overwhelming burden of debt.
By contributing to the LEGACY Health Science Spotlight Initiative, donors directly impact the lives of students who are passionate about making a difference in healthcare. These donations not only help alleviate the immediate financial pressures but also empower students to pursue their dreams with confidence, knowing that their community supports their educational journey. Your generosity can help ensure that financial constraints do not prevent talented and dedicated individuals from pursuing careers in nursing, emergency medical technology, radiologic technology, and other vital health sciences.
At the heart of any successful academic program are the dedicated and knowledgeable faculty members who guide and mentor students. Â鶹ֱ²¥ is committed to attracting and retaining top-tier educators who are experts in their fields. However, to do so, we must offer competitive salaries and benefits that reflect the high level of expertise required to teach in the health sciences.
Investing in our faculty is an investment in the quality of education our students receive. By providing competitive compensation, we ensure that our educators can commit their careers to Â鶹ֱ²¥, fostering a stable and enriching learning environment. Additionally, supporting faculty development through professional training, research opportunities, and conference participation ensures that our instructors stay at the forefront of healthcare advancements, bringing the latest knowledge and techniques into the classroom.
Your support through the LEGACY Health Science Spotlight Initiative helps us maintain a faculty of committed professionals who are passionate about educating the next generation of healthcare providers, ensuring that Â鶹ֱ²¥ remains a leader in health science education.
As the healthcare industry evolves, so too must our academic programs. The introduction of our new Medical Assistant Technology program is a prime example of how Â鶹ֱ²¥ is responding to the needs of the healthcare sector. However, launching and maintaining such programs requires substantial resources. Curriculum development, instructional materials, and specialized equipment all demand significant investment to ensure that our students receive a comprehensive and up-to-date education.
Beyond new programs, it is also critical to continuously update and expand existing ones. Healthcare is a dynamic field with constant advancements in technology, procedures, and patient care. To keep pace, our programs must remain current and relevant, providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demands of today’s healthcare environment.
Your support is vital in helping Â鶹ֱ²¥ remain at the cutting edge of health science education. By investing in program development and enhancement, you ensure that our students are equipped with the latest tools and techniques, positioning them for success in their careers and contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare services in our community.
